Club Career

Club(s) Joined Queen's Park Rangers FC academy when he was just ten years old. While he was playing with Eltham Town FC, he was courted by various clubs such as Charlton Athletic FC, Chelsea FC, Millwall FC, Middlesbrough FC and QPR were still keen on him. But it was West Ham United FC that signed him as a trainee in 1992. Turned professional on 27 November 1995. Played 127 Premier League matches, scoring twice. In between those appearances, he was loaned to AFC Bournemouth on 8 November 1996, playing ten league matches. On 20 May 1999, West Ham blocked a £12 million transfer bid from Real Madrid CF. Transferred to Leeds United AFC on 27 November 2000 for a British record transfer fee £18 million, he was also the World's most expensive defender, but only played 54 Premier League matches, scoring twice, before breaking the records again when he transferred to Manchester United FC on 22 July 2002 for £29.1 million. He played 312 Premier League matches, scoring seven times. For his services, Ferdinand was allowed to leave on a free transfer, and on 17 July 2014, Rio returned to Queen's Park Rangers FC. He completed eleven Premier League appearances, before being released on 27 May 2015. He announced his retirement on three days later.

In September 2003, Ferdinand failed to attend a mandatory drug test, claiming he had forgotten because he was preoccupied with moving houses and instead went shopping. The FA Disciplinary Committee imposed an eight-month ban from January 2004 at club and international level and a £50,000 fine.
In April 2008, Ferdinand, angry at United's defeat to Chelsea, swore at stewards, kicking a female steward, Tracy Wray, in the process. Ferdinand then claimed to have merely brushed her with his foot. Ferdinand said he apologised and sent the steward some flowers. However, Wray showed the bruise on her leg to the media and her husband claimed that Ferdinand did not apologise or send flowers.
He has alao been convicted of drink-driving, banned for a year, as well as receiving bans for various speeding offences.
