"The revival
of Youth Football for those between 16 and 18 years of age has been one
of the most important features in The Football Association's work since
the War. The 1947-48 season has seen two innovations. The first was the
International Youth Tournament played in England. There was also the
Youth International Championship between England, Scotland, Wales and
Ireland. The success of these competitions is unquestioned, and they are
likely to become a permanent feature in each year's fixtures. The
promise shown by many of the players and their general enthusiasm augurs
well for the future of the game." -

Following the heavy defeats suffered by the Public Schools earlier in the
decade and the general decline in quality, the Football Association
introduced an annual Schools Week, also inviting Advanced Level Grammar
School pupils for coaching, culminating in meetings with amateur, university
and youth teams. The Amateur Football Alliance then widened the selection to
face the FA Youth team with a combined representative team of Grammar School
