Diary

Monday, 5 September 2011 - England have arranged a mouth-watering and challenging friendly against Spain, the reigning world and European champions, at Wembley in November and hope to be able to fulfil the fixture by securing top spot in Group G to avoid a play-off to reach Euro 2012.

Thursday, 3 November 2011 - Fabio Capello announces his unpublished Provisional Squad for the upcoming friendlies against Spain and Sweden, it includes captain John Terry.

But manager Fabio Capello will consult with senior Football Association figures before deciding whether to name him in the final squad.  Terry is undergoing investigation for alleged racial abuse comments to Anton Ferdinand, by both the Football Association and the Police.

Sunday, 6 November 2011 a.m. - Fabio Capello has confirmed that Wayne Rooney will not be selected in the England squad.  "I spoke to him and told him he would not be selected for this game and he understood this, I want to see some players who can play in the Rooney position. I want to know the value of some players because Saturday's game against Spain will be really important.  Spain play a different style to other teams and the Rooney position will be really important not only in this game but when we play in the Euros in Poland."

Capello confirmed that Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge will be selected in the squad, along with Rooney's Manchester United team-mate Danny Welbeck.  "I want to see something different," said Capello.  He also confirmed that he would make a decision with regard to Rooney and the Euro finals once the outcome of the FA's appeal is known.  "Rooney is an important player and we are waiting to hear from Uefa on the appeal from the FA. I will make a decision on Rooney after I knowerything."

Sunday, 6 November 2011ening - Fabio Capello has named a 25-man squad for the upcoming games at Wembley and has given first calls to Jack Rodwell and Daniel Sturridge.  Everton midfielder Rodwell and Chelsea forward Sturridge were both a part of the Under-21s squad at this summer's European Championship in Denmark, and have performed well in the Premier League this season.  The pair join former Under-21s team mates Joe Hart, Phil Jones, Kyle Walker, Adam Johnson, James Milner, Theo Walcott, Gabriel Agbonlahor and Danny Welbeck in Fabio's squad.

Tuesday, 8 November 2011 morning - Despite Fabio Capello's decision to leave his skipper on the bench on Saturday, John Terry looks set to make a starting appearance against Spain after Phil Jagielka is being treated for a hairline fracture of the toe.

Thursday, 10 November 2011 morning - Phil Jagielka is once more, absent from England training.  He is still being monitored for a broken toe.  He has not been sent back to his club, Everton, as Fabio Capello still appears to be determined to use Jagielka instead of his skipper, John Terry, against Spain.

Friday, 11 November 2011 - Gabby Agbanlahor has returned to his club after withdrawing from the squad due to a hamstring injury.  Meanwhile, Fabio Capello has confirmed that Frank Lampard will lead the side out against Spain, and that John Terry will receive the captains armband for the match against Sweden.
