Playing Career

Club(s)
As a Godmanchester Rovers trainee, Bent joined Ipswich Town FC as a fourteen year old trainee, before signing professionally on 2 July 2001. After two full seasons in the first time, Bent signed for Charlton Athletic FC on 1 June 2005 for £2.5 million. As the team were relegated, Tottenham Hotspur FC kept him in the Premiership on 29 June 2007 in a £16.5 million deal after he had turned down a move to West Ham United FC.  Bent was on the move again when he signed for Sunderland AFC on 5 August 2009, for an eventual £16.5 million fee. Despite a decent return, Bent was unhappy in the north-east and so joined Aston Villa FC on 18 January 2011 for £18 million, rising to £24 million. Despite being linked with Newcastle United FC, Bent joined Fulham FC on a season-long loan on 16 August 2013, but was unable to save them from relegation. Bent was sent out on loan again, firstly to Brighton & Hove Albion FC on 26 November 2014, then on 2 January 2015, to Derby County FC. Villa released him on 8 June 2015, allowing him to sign with County in a permanent deal. Bent then joined Burton Albion FC on loan for the rest of the season on 26 January 2018, only to see yet another of his teams relegated for the fourth and final time in his career. He was released by County on 18 May 2018. Bent announced his retirement from playing on 25 July 2019.
