Playing Career

Club(s)
Began as a Brighton & Hove Albion FC trainee. Barry, along with Michael Standing, joined Aston Villa FC while still a YTS trainee on 11 August 1997 for £50,000, signing professionally on 23 February 1998. He went onto captain the Villa Park club. Despite interest from Liverpool FC in May 2008, where a £17 million fee was declined, resulting in Barry getting banned from training and getting stripped of the captaincy, but Barry remained another year. However, he did leave and he signed for Manchester City FC on 2 June 2009 for £12million. Barry joined Everton FC on a season-long loan on 2 September 2013. After his City contract expired, Barry joined Everton FC in a permanent deal on 8 July 2014. He signed for West Bromwich Albion FC on 15 August 2017 for an undisclosed transfer fee. In his first season, Albion were relegated, and he was released at the end of 2018-19. However, on 4 November 2019, Barry re-signed with The Baggies until the end of the season. He announced his retirement from playing on 27 August 2020.
As a 43 year old, Barry signed with Mid-Sussex League Division Two side, Hurstpierpoint FC, on 22 July 2024.
