Club Career

Club(s) Whilst playing youth football for the Grinham Giants in the Quinton Little League, Birmingham, Lescott was spotted by a Wolverhampton Wanderers FC scout and accepted the offer of joining the club's Centre of Excellence. Lescott signed trainee forms with Wolves in August 1999. After 169 league appearances, where he scored eight times, Lescott was sold to Everton on 14 June 2006 for an immediate payment of £2 million, followed by a further £2 million paid in instalments and a final £1 million dependent on appearances. He scored fourteen goals in 113 Premership matches. Then, Manchester City FC approached Lescott and Everton and attempted to sign him in June 2009, but very public offers were turned down. Lescott placed a transfer request, which was also turned down. After being dropped by Everton because of his 'bad attitude', Lescott finally moved to City for £24 million on 25 August 2009. He had played in 98 Premier League matches, scoring seven, until his transfer to West Bromwich Albion FC on 20 June 2014 after his contract had expired. He completed 34 Premier League appearances, scoring once. On 1 September 2015, transfer deadline day, Lescott joined Aston Villa FC. He scored once in thirty Premier League appearances. After refusing a move to Scottish side Rangers FC, Lescott joined AEK, of the Greek Superleague, on 29 August 2016, ahead of Italian side Pescara. He made just four Superleague appearances. He was sacked on 14 November and he returned to England, eventually signing with Sunderland AFC when David Moyes on 24 January 2017, but made just one Premier League appearance as the club were relegated.

Notes

Five year-old Lescott was struck by a car as he stepped into the road outside his primary school in the Midlands.  His mother, sitting in the family car opposite, could only look on as her child was dragged along the road and suffered such severe head injuries that his survival was in doubt as he was taken away for major surgery.  Numerous operations followed, leaving the scar that is still visible on Lescott's forehead and which has left a permanent reminder of that dreadful afternoon.
