Diary

Saturday, 30 July 2011 - England will face Montenegro, Ukraine, Poland, Moldova, and San Marino in Group H when they bid to qualify for the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil. The draw was made this afternoon in Rio. "It is not an easy draw," said Fabio Capello. "You have to be really, really focused and play every game like a final - but that will be another manager's job."

Wednesday, 23 November 2011 - England's FIFA World Cup 2014 qualifying fixtures have today been finalised, following a meeting between all of the Group H member associations in Warsaw. The Three Lions will begin their campaign in Moldova in September 2012.

Tuesday, 24 September 2013 - Theo Walcott will miss England's World Cup qualifiers against Montenegro and Poland after having abdominal surgery on Wednesday. Walcott did not play in Arsenal's win against Stoke on Sunday, despite initially being named in the team.  "Theo will be out for a few weeks," said Gunners manager Arsene Wenger.

Thursday, 3 October 2013 - Roy Hodgson has named his 23-man squad. Included in the squad is Daniel Sturridge and Wayne Rooney, who were both injured in the last squad. They have both scored eight goals in the Premiership between them. The squad as a whole is largely unchanged to Hodgson's last squad.

Sunday, 6 October 2013 - Ashley Cole is to have a scan on a rib injury he suffered in Chelsea's 3-1 win at Norwich City today. Cole was substituted with 15 minutes left at Carrow Road for tactical reasons, but later complained of a problem.

Monday, 7 October 2013 - Ashley Cole will miss the qualifier against Montenegro with a rib injury and has been replaced in manager Roy Hodgson's squad by Arsenal's Kieran Gibbs. He will remain with his club for more treatment. It is not yet clear whether Cole will be fit enough to feature against Poland.

Friday, 11 October 2013 - Tom Cleverley has been ruled out of England's World Cup qualifiers against Montenegro and Poland with a calf injury.

Later on in the day, England beat Montenegro 4-1, setting up a vital needed victory over Polan don Tuesday to ensure automatic qualification. Kyle Walker received a caution, meaning he is suspended for the match at Wembley on Tuesday.

Saturday, 12 October 2013 - Tom Cleverley's withdrawal has meant that Liverpool's teenager Raheem Sterling has been called in to provide suitable cover. Sterling comes in from the under-21 squad.

Sunday, 12 October 2013 - Ashley Cole is out of England's final World Cup qualifier against Poland on Tuesday with a rib injury. The Chelsea left-back missed Friday's win over Montenegro with the problem and has failed to recover in time. Everton's Leighton Baines is expected to continue in the position after playing there on Friday.

Friday, 25 October 2013 - Fifa has started disciplinary proceedings against the English and Polish football associations after flares were lit during the final World Cup qualifier at Wembley. Supporters in the Poland section were photographed holding lit flares, while one also landed on the pitch. Thirty-five Poles and one England fan were arrested after the match, with police holding 16 people for possessing or using flares.

England boss Hodgson has selected Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge and Manchester United's Wayne Rooney, who between them have bagged eight times in the Premier League this season, after they missed September's qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine.

Rickie Lambert and Danny Welbeck are also included in the forward line along with Jermain Defoe.

The midfield is largely unchanged and includes England's latest member of the 100-club, Frank Lampard, skipper Steven Gerrard and Everton teenager Ross Barkley.
