Playing Career

Club(s)
Joined Tottenham Hotspur FC as a nine-year old and worked through the club's youth system. From 19 March 2009, he spent his early career on loan at a variety of lower league clubs, gaining that vital first team experience. Firstly, at Yeovil Town FC. He then went to Leyton Orient FC on 5 August 2009. Milton Keynes Dons FC followed on 14 January 2010. On 13 August 2010, Townsend went to Ipswich Town FC. He joined Watford FC on 20 January 2011 and Millwall FC on 7 March 2011. He returned to Spurs and aided their 2011-12 Europa Cup campaign. But was soon on the road again. Leeds United AFC from 1 January 2012. Birmingham City FC were next on 24 February 2012. From 31 January 2013, he was at Queen's Park Rangers FC. After become a fringe player back at Spurs, on 27 January 2016, Townsend signed for Steve McClaren's Newcastle United FC for £12 million transfer fee. Unfortunately, Townsend's transfer was not enough to save McClaren's job or Newcastle United's Premier League status, as they endured relegation. Townsend then signed for Crystal Palace FC for £13 million on 1 July 2016. After his contract expired, he became Rafa Benitez' first signing at Everton FC on 20 July 2021. His time at Goodison was plagued by injury and he was released on 9 June 2023. Luton Town FC picked up his signature on 11 October 2023 on a short-term contract until January.
