Variations
  • In the five World Cup qualifying fixtures, England had a black and white FIFA WORLD CUP GERMANY 2006 logo heat-pressed onto the upper right sleeve.
  • Robert Green wore number 13 against Colombia.
  • David James wore number 13 against Denmark.
  • The names of England's opponents, as they appeared in the match details, were AUSTRIA, COLOMBIA, DENMARK, N. IRELAND, POLAND and WALES. England were named first in the three home fixtures. They were named second in the other four fixtures.
Appearances

5.5 - Paul Robinson

1 - David James

0.5 - Robert Green

  • James's 'single' appearance was actually two appearances as a half-time substitute.

  • Green's appearance for the second half against Colombia was his international debut and won him the first of twelve full caps.

Clean Sheets

3.5 - Paul Robinson

This all-blue outfit was introduced alongside England's 2005 home kit and only appeared for the duration of that year, although the socks had been worn in November 2004 with the alternative yellow kit. An almost identical black shirt of the same design was introduced four days after the full kit was worn. In fact, because this shirt was dark navy, it was only when comparing the two, that it became apparent that they were, indeed, different shirts.

England put in some impressive performances in qualifying for the 2006 World Cup and Paul Robinson reinforced his standing as first-choice, especially when his predecessor, David James replaced him after a goalless first half in Denmark, before conceding four goals and then admitting that he hadn't prepared himself properly for his appearance.
