For the 'B' team's match against Holland at Amsterdam on May 17th several
changes were made in the side that had lost to Italy.Holland won their
first victory over England since 1935 in a disappointing game. England was
soundly beaten by a more workmanlike side. The forward-line was
particularly weak, comparing unfavourably with Dutch opponents who were
slower and less skilful, but superior in the vital matter of accurate
	  passing.
England started well, and Pye nearly scored in the fifth
minute. But there was a lack of co-ordination about them, and their
attacks tended to peter out. Holland's first goal came after 31 minutes of
	  these abortive attacks.
The second-half started with a series of badly
missed chances for England. Then, following defensive lapses, came two
goals for Holland in rapid succession, by Roosenburg and Lenstra, to give
the home side victory by 3 goals to 0.
