Notes
Five Rovers players appeared in the England starting
line-up in the 9-1 drubbing of Ireland, 15 March 1890. John Barton,
James Forrest, Joe Lofthouse, Nat Walton and Bill Townley.
Four players had already started three times for England as
early as 1885. Herbert Arthur, James Forrest, Joe Lofthouse and James
Brown all started against Ireland, 28 February 1885, against Wales, 14 March
1885 and against Scotland, 21 March 1885.
