Diary
				  Wednesday, 12 February 1879 -
The first of three trial matches
arranged by the Football Association Committee, with the view
of selecting a team to meet Scotland on March 1, was played at
The Oval between The Probables, in white, and The Rest, in
				  stripes. The match ended scoreless.
 Wednesday, 19 February 1879 -
This afternoon the second of three
trial matches was played at The Oval, in fine weather. Whites
and Stripes were the names given to the respective sides, on
both of which where to be found players of distinction. The
game produced some fast play, and in the end The Stripes won by
three goals (Gavett, R.A. Bastard, Wild) to none.

 Wednesday, 26 February 1879 -
The last of the three trial games arranged by the FA Committee
was played again at The Oval, under a light covering of snow.
Despite the unfavourable state of the ground the contest,
which was again between teams known respectively as Whites and
Stripes, proved highly interesting. The Stripes played one
short of their opponents, but were in the end successful by
seven goals to four. The winners' goals were obtained by A.L.
Bambridge (2), Hedley (3), and S.R. Bastard (2), while those
for the Whites were kicked by Woodcock (2), Widdowson and Bury.
The team that would face Scotland was named afterwards.
However, shortly afterwards, the match was postponed until 5 April, due
				  to the adverse weather conditions.
