Played schoolboy football in Liverpool before joining Everton FC
as a fourteen year-old. He became an apprentice in December 1977, siging
professional forms in August 1979. After a century of league
appearances and eleven goals, he left to join Aston Villa FC on 20
May 1983 for £350,000. Another 75 league appearances and seven
goals, McMahon returned to Merseyside on 12 September 1985, when
Liverpool FC signed him for £350,000 (204 league appearances, 29
goals). McMahon joined Manchester City FC for £900,000 on 24
December 1991. He played in 87 league matches, scoring once,
before the temptation of management at Swindon Town FC took him
away from Maine Road in November 1994. |

Management Career |
|
Club(s) |
McMahon took
over the reigns at Swindon Town FC in November 1994, becoming the club's
player-manager. He was sent-off on his debut and relegated in his first
season, but undeterred, McMahon would go on to
play 42 league matches before hanging-up his boots. But after a
promotion in his second season, the results and table positions became
mediocre, and he left by mutual consent in September 1998. McMahon then
took up the management at Blackpool FC on 7 January 2000, where he
remained until the final game of the 2003-04 season. In 2005, he had a
spell in charge of A-League side Perth Glory FC. |

Due to the fact that
many matches rarely stuck to exactly ninety minutes long, allowing time
for injuries, errors and substitutions. The minutes here
given can only ever be a guideline and cannot therefore be accurate, only
an approximation. |
