Diary

Thursday, 5 October 2017 - Following on the tail of England's successful qualification campaign, The FA have announced two friendlies in November against the top two ranking teams, according to FIFA, Germany and Brazil. Both matches will be played at Wembley Stadium on the 10th and 14th of the month.

Monday, 30 October 2017 -
England has requested permission from FIFA to wear poppies during November's international matches, as well as the other Home Nationals, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It comes after the law was changed last month, allowing the home nations to wear a poppy if opposing teams and the competition organiser agree to it.

Thursday, 2 November 2017 -
Gareth Southgate announces his 25-man squad. He has called up the uncapped Tammy Abraham, Joe Gomez and Ruben Loftus-Cheek for the friendlies against Germany and Brazil this month. Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge and midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have been left out, as has Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling. Team-mate Ashley Young, who last played for his country in September 2013, is recalled. Tottenham's Danny Rose and Leicester's Jamie Vardy return from injury.

Sunday, 5 November 2017 - Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli has been ruled out of England's friendly matches with a hamstring injury. Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino said the 21-year-old's injury was "minor" before he missed today's Premier League victory against Crystal Palace. Southgate has not yet announced a replacement in the squad.

Monday, 6 November 2017 - Everton defender Michael Keane has been called into the England squad. Keane returned from a foot infection to play in the 3-2 win over Watford on Sunday and has been added after the withdrawal of midfielder Dele Alli. Alli missed Tottenham's win over Crystal Palace on Sunday with a hamstring injury. Teammates Harry Kane and midfielder Harry Winks are to be "further assessed by their club before joining up with England", says the Football Association. The pair required treatment during the 1-0 win over Palace, with Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino saying Winks, who went off at half-time, had twisted his ankle. Kane received treatment on his knee in the first half and was substituted on 77 minutes for "protection", according to Pochettino. Chelsea centre-back Gary Cahill, who helped his side beat Manchester United on yesterday, will also be assessed by his club before joining up with the national team. Midfielder Jordan Henderson missed Liverpool's victory over West Ham with a thigh problem but is due to arrive at St George's Park later in the week.
Tottenham duo Harry Kane and Harry Winks have also withdrawn from the England squad due to injuries. West Bromwich Albion midfielder Jake Livermore has been called up as a replacement. Striker Kane has a knee injury while midfielder Winks has an ankle problem.

Tuesday, 7 November 2017 - Three more players withdrew from the squad today. Jordan Henderson, Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph have all remained with their clubs. Chelsea's Gary Cahill has joined up with the national team having been assessed by his club's medical team.
Twenty players took to the pitch at St. George's Park, while Danny Rose worked indoors on a pre-planned recovery session.
Jack Cork was a surprise addition to the squad when he was drafted in during the evening. The 28 year-old Burnley midfielder is no stranger to England teams having represented his country at every level from under-16's to under-21's. As well as being a member of the Great Britain 2012 Olympic team.

Wednesday, 8 November 2017 - England and Germany players will wear black armbands bearing poppies. The tribute is in remembrance of members of the armed forces, said the FA and DFB. FA chief executive Martin Glenn called it "a show of solidarity and unity". It comes after rules were changed last month, allowing the home nations to wear a poppy if opposing teams and the competition organiser agree to it. DFB president Reinhard Grindel said poppy armbands were not "political propaganda". "They're about remembering the kind of values that were kicked to the ground in two World Wars but are cherished by football: respect, tolerance, and humanity," he said.

Thursday, 9 November 2017 - Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater declined an England call-up but manager Gareth Southgate says any talk of club-versus-country rows is "nonsense". Drinkwater is lacking fitness and news of his decision comes after six players pulled out of Southgate's squad. "The players are injured and cannot play. I am not a manager who wants to reel players out until they break. I don't take risks with players. I have man-to-man discussions with them around where they are at and how much risk we want to take. Hearing this talk of club v country, it is a nonsense. I spoke to Danny earlier in the week but he feels he is not fit enough to play," Southgate added. Meanwhile, Chelsea defender Gary Cahill was the only player missing from training on Thursday morning. Two England Under-20 internationals - Tayo Edun of Fulham and Jay Dasilva, who is on loan at Charlton from Chelsea - were invited to take part in the session.
In the evening, Jack Butland withdrew from the squad after breaking a finger. He will not be replaced. Eric Dier will captain the side tomorrow night, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek will start the match.
