Diary

Tuesday, 16 September 2008 - England will play friendly internationals against Slovakia and Slovenia at Wembley in 2009.  Fabio Capello's side will face Slovakia on 28 March, three days before the home World Cup qualifier against Ukraine. Slovenia will be England's opponents on 5 September ahead of the Group six match against Croatia on 9 September.  Capello said "It's very important to play similar style opposition as practise for the competitive matches. The Slovakia and Slovenia games will be very good preparation for the vital World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine and Croatia."

Sunday, 30 August 2009 - Fabio Capello names a 24-man squad for games against Slovenia and Croatia.  Fabio Capello has named his squad for the Wembley double-header with Slovenia and Croatia.  Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster returns from injury to join Robert Green and Paul Robinson in forming Capello's three goalkeeping options in the 24-man list.  Meanwhile Spurs duo Aaron Lennon and Peter Crouch, who both scored in Spurs' win over Birmingham City on Saturday, are in the squad.  Manchester United defender Wes Brown is also in Capello's selection for the friendly next Saturday, which will be followed by the important World Cup Qualifier a week on Wednesday.

Wednesday, 2 September 2009 - Bolton's Gary Cahill has been drafted into the England squad for Saturday's friendly against Slovenia at Wembley.  The 23-year-old centre-back is in as cover for Wes Brown and John Terry, who picked up knocks in training. With Rio Ferdinand (thigh) already out, Capello will be eager for Terry in particular to be fit for the World Cup qualifier with Croatia on 9 September.  In a statement, the Football Association stated that both players were likely to be fit for a match in which victory would secure England's place at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.  However, Capello may chose to rest them against Slovenia given the importance of their meeting with Slaven Bilić's Croatia four days later.  Blackburn goalkeeper Paul Robinson also suffered a minor injury in training but should be fit for both matches.
