            Diary
Thursday, 2 December 2004 -
England will face Denmark in a friendly next August
to warm-up for their World Cup qualifiers the following month.
Sven-Göran Eriksson's men travel to Copenhagen on 17
August ahead of their Group Six trips to Wales and Northern Ireland in
September. "Denmark have a deserved reputation for attractive,
attacking football.  I am expecting a difficult game which will be
excellent preparation for our final qualifying matches." Denmark coach Morten Olsen added: "England are an
outstanding opponent. "The match is against the most traditional football
nation in the world and a team, which always delivers a 100% effort." Saturday, 13 August 2005 -
		  Sven-Göran Eriksson has included
Crystal Palace striker Andy
Johnson in his England squad for the friendly against Denmark on 17 August
in Copenhagen.  Johnson has expressed fears that staying at relegated
Palace would endanger his England chances.  But there was no place for
Manchester United striker
Alan Smith.
Birmingham City's
Matthew Upson is called up with
Sol Campbell, Ledley King and
Wayne Bridge all injured, while
Norwich City goalkeeper
Robert Green is included.
Injury means Liverpool's
Peter Crouch and Newcastle
United's Kieron Dyer are both absent but
Jermain Defoe is called up.
Michael Carrick, who also
performed well in the US, retains his spot among the midfielders.
Sunday, 14 August 2005 - Eriksson has replaced the injured
Andy
Johnson with Charlton Athletic's Darren Bent.  "Andy is injured, we got a late phone call
that he has a hamstring injury, so Darren Bent is in."  Eriksson revealed
Manchester United's
Alan Smith asked not to be
included so he could play for the club's reserves.  "Alan
has had such little football he said he would rather get 90 minutes under his
belt on Tuesday for United's reserves."
 Tuesday, 16 August 2005 -
Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips has pulled out of the England squad because
of a knee injury.  "Shaun is not here; he is in England as he has a swollen
knee," said Eriksson.  The Swede revealed Jermain Defoe will start in preparation for September's World Cup qualifying
double-header.  Eriksson said he would not pick Michael Owen because he is
suspended for the Wales game following two bookings.
"I am going to play the best team which can play against
Wales so that means Michael Owen won't start.  It's not a difficult
decision - this game is to prepare for Wales and Northern Ireland."
		  Darren
Bent took part in his first senior England training session on Monday despite
being troubled by a dead leg during Charlton's win at Sunderland on Saturday.
"Darren has pace, good technique, he can score goals and has been one of the
best players in the Under-21 side.  With Peter Crouch and Andy Johnson
injured it was natural to take a look at him. He did a good session on Monday so
we'll see if he comes on."
