Birth 9 November 1897, in a Cottage on the Burnden Park grounds, Burnden Street, Bolton, Lancashire [registered in Bolton, December 1897].
His father being the trainer and groundsman at Bolton Wanderers FC
 

According to the 1901 census, Henry is the tenth of eleven children to John and Margaret (née Horrocks). They live in Burnden Street in Bolton and his father is a 'trainer of football players'. The older members of the family work in the local cotton mill.

 

According to the 1911 census, thirteen year old Henry is one of six children living at home in 19 Webster Street with their football trainer father and mother. Henry is a cotton spinner. The census reveals that his parents had twelve children, and one died after birth.

  According to the 1921 census, Henry is now a professional footballer (for Bolton Wanderers FC) and is the middle of five children still at home with their parents at 23 Fortune Street in Bolton.
Marriage to Sylvia Hill [registered in Bolton, June 1923]. One son, Alan (b.31 March 1927). Sylvia died 12 October 1968.
  According to the 1939 register, Henry, an assistant groundsman at Bolton Wanderers, is married to Sylvia, living at 21 Norton Street in Bolton, with their son, Alan.

Playing Career
Club(s) Started his career with local Sunday school side, Bolton St. Mark's FC, before joining Fleetwood FC. Signed for Bolton Wanderers FC in December 1920. Remained at Burnden Park until he left for Rochdale AFC on 18 May 1932. Joined Nelson FC in August 1933 before retiring.
