Full name Errington Ridley Liddell Keen
Born 4 September 1910 in Walker, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland [registered in Tynemouth, September 2010].

Census Notes

According to the 1911 census, Errington was the youngest of two children to Errington and Elizabeth. They live at 48 Sidney Road in Tranmere, Birkenhead. His father was a rivetter.

According to the 1939 register, Errington, a professional footballer and builders clerk, is married to Ethel, and they live at 10 Red Hill Avenue in the Redhill area of Hereford. They live their two children (records blocked), and his widowed mother-in-law, Agnes Pairman. 
Married to Ethel Pairman (b.30 March 1905) [registered in Derby, Derbyshire, March 1931]. Two children, Errington (b.1931) and Murray (b.1937). By 1938, the family were living at Kendon Avenue in the Sunny Hill area of Derby.
Died July 1984 in Fulham, aged 73 years nk days [registered in Fulham, Middlesex, July 1984].

Club Career

Club(s) Played schoolboy football in Newcastle before playing with Nun's Moor FC of the Northern Amateur League. Joined Newcastle Swifts FC in 1926 and Newcastle United FC in September 1927. Played only once in the League, 18 October 1930, against Derby County FC. He later joined County on 12 December 1930 in a swap deal involving Harry Bedford, and played in 219 league appearances, scoring four times. Signed by Billy Walker for the newly-formed Chelmsford City FC on 14 May 1938 and onto Hereford United FC on 11 July 1939 as player-manager. Guested for Everton FC in 1941-42, then Liverpool FC in late 1942 and Millwall FC in January 1943 during the war, where he was also stationed in India as an Army Physical Training instructor. Joined Lincoln City FC on 8 November 1945, and then, the following month, he was at Leeds United AFC on 20 December 1945 and then Bacup Borough in the Lancashire Combination in July 1946.

Managerial Career

Club(s)

Keen was appointed player-manager of Southern League's newest club, Hereford United FC, on 11 July 1939 and 1940. Keen managed Egypt between November 1947 and 1948, and was in charge at the 1948 Summer Olympics. He later managed IFK Norrkøping and Beşiktaş between 1949 and 1950.
