Playing Career


Club(s)
Began his playing career with Huddersfield YMCA FC before joining Huddersfield Town AFC groundstaff as a fifteen year old in July 1963, progressing through the ranks, signing professionally in 1965. Don Revie viewed him as a potential replacement for Jack Charlton and signed him to Leeds United AFC in June 1972 for £100,000, following Town's relegation. He was a regular in the Leeds defence for the next ten years, appointed as club captain in 1976. Moving to Bradford City AFC in December 1982 as their player-manager. Ultimately hanging up his boots following the Valley Parade disaster in May 1985.
