Notes

Lilywhite players featured early in England's line-ups.  Due to the unprecedented success of the club in the formative years of the Football League.  Three of these players, Bob Howarth, John Goodall and Fred Dewhurst,  started for England twice, against Wales and Scotland, 4 February and 17 March, 1888.
