Notes

Notts County, as one of the oldest clubs in the world, has provided players for the England national team from very early on.  Three County players, Stuart Macrae, Arthur Cursham and Henry Cursham, started for England against Wales in the 5-0 win on 3 February 1883 and against Scotland, 10 March 1883.  Henry Moore replaced Athur Cursham in the starting line-up for the middle game, the 7-0 victory over Ireland, 24 February 1883.

The following season, Alf Dobson replaced Arthur Cursham in the team for the 8-1 victorious match against Ireland, 23 February 1884.  Alf Dobson and Stuart Macrae continued in the following match, joined by Billy Gunn, against Scotland, 15 March 1884.

County were a Football League Third Division club when Tommy Lawton signed for them, and then represented the England national team.
