Notes
Three Town players started in an England line-up on ten
separate occasions. Firstly, Russell Osman, Terry Butcher and Paul
Mariner played together twice, against Australia, May 1980, then against
Spain, March 1981. Mick Mills then partnered Butcher and Mariner against
Switzerland, May 1981, the first of many. Mills, Osman and Mariner
started against Norway, September 1981. Mills, Butcher and Mariner then
started against Scotland, May 1982, and France, Czechoslovakia, West Germany
and Spain in the 1982 World Cup Finals, June/July 1982. Finally, Osman
returned alongside Butcher and Mariner for the match against Denmark,
September 1982.
Earlier, three players were on the pitch against Northern
Ireland, May 1977. Mick Mills and Paul Mariner started, Brian Talbot was
a substitute.
