Club Career

Club(s) From schoolboy football to Portsmouth FC's groundstaff. But after Portsmouth abandoned its Youth system, he became an Ipswich Town FC amauteur in August 1965 and an apprentice later in 1965. Turned professional in February 1966 and played in 591 league matches, scoring 22 times. Joined Southampton FC in November 1982 for a £50,000 fee, played in another 103 league matches, scoring three times. Joined Stoke City AFC in July 1985 as their player-manager. He was sacked in November 1989 having played in 38 league matches.

Beyond England

The following year he became manager of Colchester United FC, but was sacked after only a few months when they were relegated to the Conference. Mills became chief scout for Sheffield WednesdayFC  and then a coach at Birmingham City FC, having a spell as caretaker manager after the dismissal of Trevor Francis. He is now technical director of Galaxy Sports Management and the Suffolk Ambassador for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. - Media
