    Match Report by Norman Giller

Gary Lineker ended a goal famine that had lasted nearly a year when he headed past the seventeen-year-old Albanian goalkeeper in the fifth minute of this return World Cup qualifier. It was Lineker who laid on the second and third goals for his usual provider Peter Beardsley. Then substitute Paul Gascoigne lit up the international stage by setting up a goal for his fellow Geordie Chris Waddle before conjuring a magical goal of his own in the eighty-eight minute, ghosting past two defenders and then firing a low shot into the far corner of the net. It was a taste of things to come.
