    Match Report by Norman Giller

It took a fiftieth minute goal from Sweden's ace striker Johnny Ekstrom to wake up England, and they raised their game but were unable to translate their dominance into goals. Tony Cottee, substituting for injured John Barnes seven minutes after Sweden took the lead, went on to win seven caps but was not on the pitch for the full ninety minutes in any of the matches. Predictably, there were calls for Bobby Robson's head by a section of the media who had turned England manager-baiting into a national sport.
