      PARIS, May
17.--England beat France in the Association football International here
to-day by five goals to one, Stephenson scoring three and Dean two. At
the interval England led by three goals to one. The Frenchmen attacked
straight from the kick-off and a rapid forward movement caught the
English defence napping. Langillier gained possession and opened the
scoring immediately with a good shot. Having recovered from this early
reverse the Englishmen soon settled down and from then onwards they
completely outplayed their opponents in all the finer points of the
		game. Stephenson equalized and midway through the second {first?}
half the Huddersfield player put England ahead. Just before the interval
Dean increased England's lead. The English team
simply played with the opposition in the second half, during which
Stephenson completed the hat-trick and Dean scored his second goal.--Reuter

			IN OTHER NEWS...
It was on 17 May 1928
that police conduct in subjecting 22-year-old Irene Savidge to a
five-hour interview without a female officer or legal support being
present, and after her case of indecent behaviour in Hyde Park with
ex-government minister Sir Leo Money had been dismissed, was debated in
the House of Commons. An inquiry was subsequently established which led
to changes in the way that female suspects could be interrogated. |

      Alex Villaplane would go on
to become France's first Captain at the World Cup Finals. But more
notoriously, he would be caught up in the conflicts of WWII, becoming a
leading member of the French Gestapo, eventually being shot as a traitor
on 26 December 1944 for heinous crimes against his own people. TheFA.comFFF.Fr
