Born 25 November 1892 in Kings Street, Southwell, Nottinghamshire [registered in Southwell, December 1892].
Baptised 25 December 1892 at St. Leonard's Church in Newark

Census Notes

According to the 1901 census, Arthur E. is the oldest of three children to Arthur Reuben and Hannah Francis (nee Coupland), but none can be found in the census.

According to the 1911 census, Arthur E. is a moulders apprentice and is now the eldest of six living with their parents at 13 Coleford Road in Attercliffe, Sheffield. His father is a clerk. The census reveals that another child had tragically died in childhood.

According to the 1939 register, Arthur E., a licensee, is married to Evelyn G. and living at 9 Bridge Street in Llwchwr.

Died 2 February 1967 in Swansea, aged 74 years 69 days [registered in West Glamorgan, Glamorganshire, March 1967].

Club Career

Club(s) Began his junior career playing for Atlas and Norfolk Works FC from Sheffield. He joined Sheffield United FC in August 1912 as Harold Gough's understudy, which limited his league appearance total to fifteen. West Ham United FC signed him for a 350 pound transfer fee on 10 March 1919. He had already guested for them during WW1, where he served as a Coldstream Guards. He made 370 league appearances and was handed a free transfer in April 1932. He signed for Watford FC on 8 June 1932.
