and calico printer. Gilbert had an older brother, Herbert, who died as a
three-day old and Gilbert was in fact, one of fourteen. |

the 1911 census, Gilbert, still a silk dyer,
now married to Katherine, with two daughters, Elizabeth and Margaret,
living back at 54 St Edward Street in Leek. |
His wife, Katherine, died
at Compton House on 13 December 1920, following a long illness. According to
the 1921 census, Gilbert is now a widower and
still a silk dyer, and lives with three of his children, Hilda, Gilbert
and Geoffrey, and five servants at Compton House in Leek. |
According to
the 1939 register, Gilbert is a retired silk
dyer living at Compton House with a single domestic help.
His youngest son, Gilbert, died at sea on 27 April 1940. |
