Club Career

Club(s) Played junior football in Northumberland, particularly West Wylam FC before being signed by Sheffield Wednesday FC in 1935.  Joined Sunderland AFC on 7 October 1946 for £5000. Joined Lincoln City AFC on 14 October 1949, and after only a few games, broke his leg and never played league football again.

Distinctions It used to be thought that Jackie Robinson was probably the youngest player ever to be capped by England, seventeen years and nine months, but he had cut two years off his age before his transfer to Sunderland AFC, a fee later reduced.
