Full name William Isaac Furness
Born 8 June 1909 in Washington, County Durham [registered in Chester-le-Street, September 1909].

Census Notes

According to the 1911 census, William Isaac is the youngest of two children, along with Eliza, to George William and Mary Elizabeth.  They live at 1 New Road in Washington. His father is an engineman in the mines.

According to the 1939 register, William I., a turret lather operator, is married to Mary, and are living at 70 Britannia Road in Norwich, the home of the widowed Sophia Dunnell.
Married to Mary Carroll (b.24 November 1908), [registered in Gateshead, Durham, September 1935]. One son, John G. (b.28 May 1936).
Died 29 August 1980, aged 71 years 82 days [registered in Norwich, Norfolk, September 1980].
Height/Weight 5' 11", 10st. 7lbs [1928 & 1929], another source states: 5' 7", 11st. 7lbs [1929], 5' 6" [1937], 5' 8½", 11st. 6lbs [1938].

Club Career

Club(s) Started his career playing for his works' team at Usworth Colliery, where he was a clerk. Joined Leeds United AFC for a transfer fee of £50 in August 1928, making his league debut against Middlesbrough FC on 30 November 1929. After 243 league appearances and 62 goals, Norwich City FC then paid £2750 for Furness' signature on 10 June 1937. He retired in June 1947, following 93 league appearances, in which he scored 21 times, to join the backroom staff.
