All information is complete to and including England's last match, the third of the 2020-21 season, against Wales on 8 October 2020

Diary

Thursday, 16 July 2020 - England will play Wales in a friendly at Wembley Stadium on 8 October. The match will be played behind closed doors in keeping with government coronavirus guidelines. The two nations last met at Euro 2016, when England won 2-1. England will pay tribute to former players who have died in the last twelve months, including 1966 World Cup winners Jack Charlton, Martin Peters, Norman Hunter and Peter Bonetti. The Nations League will then continue when England play Belgium and Denmark, and Wales face Republic of Ireland and Bulgaria.

Thursday, 1 October 2020 - Gareth Southgate names his 30 man squad to face Wales, Belgium and Denmark. He names a larger than usual squad to help cope with the extra game, with first senior call-ups forerton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Arsenal defender Bukayo Saka and Leicester City midfielder Harvey Barnes.
There is also a return for Ben Chilwell, now at Chelsea, Harry Maguire, and Jordan Henderson, who all missed last months games.

Monday, 5 October 2020 -
Tammy Abraham, Ben Chilwell and Jadon Sancho could miss England's game with Wales on Thursday after being told to stay away from St George's Park. It is understood they were among more than six people at Abraham's surprise 23rd birthday party on Saturday - breaking coronavirus rules in England. They could now miss the game at Wembley because of UEFA's testing protocols. To have any chance of playing they need to complete a coronavirus test 48 hours before Thursday's 20:00 BST kick-off. However, having already been told by the Football Association to delay their arrival at England's training camp, completing a test in time appears unlikely. The FA says the delay is a precaution while it assesses if there is any risk to the wider group. Chelsea forward Abraham, Chelsea left-back Chilwell, 23, and Borussia Dortmund winger Sancho, 20, have all apologised for the breach. The party, which was first reported by the Sun, happened hours after Abraham played in Chelsea's 4-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday. It is understood those at the party were close friends and family who had their temperatures checked on arrival. The rest of England manager Gareth Southgate's squad have arrived at St George's Park to prepare for three games in a week at Wembley. Southgate was already planning to talk to his squad this week about "what it means to wear the shirt", following the incident involving Foden and Greenwood.
Raheem Sterling has been ruled out of England's squad with injury, handing Manchester City another injury concern. But the problem is a minor hamstring issue and is not expected to keep the player out for long. City's medical team will take a look at the problem now Sterling has been released by the FA, but it is hoped he will be close to a return to training after the international break.

Wednesday, 7 October 2020 - Tammy Abraham, Ben Chilwell and Jadon Sancho will miss the match tomorrow and could also be absent for Sunday's game with Belgium after breaking coronavirus rules, manager Gareth Southgate says.
Their inclusion in the squad for Sunday's Nations League fixture depends on the outcome of coronavirus tests. "We just have to make sure to protect the whole group, that is key. The timelines on the incubation period are really complex and we have to manage that as best we can. At the beginning of the week we had a good meeting with the and spoke about the responsibility of being an England player and how the spotlight is different. I have also talked about the connection of the fans and we have 10 with us who were in Russia, they have done good work with their clubs, communities but some of the young ones have not done that and they need to prove themselves. They need to remember it is an honour to play for England, we have all made errors, I had nights out as player but we are living in unique times with Covid."

Thursday, 8 October 2020 -
Dominic Calvert-Lewin marked his England debut with a goal as Gareth Southgate's side eased to victory in the friendly against Wales at Wembley. Everton's in-form striker rose to head his 10th goal of the season after 26 minutes from Jack Grealish, delivering an impressive all-round display until he was substituted just before the hour. The outstanding Grealish was at the heart of England's best work, drawing the foul that led to England's second goal eight minutes after the break. Kieran Trippier delivered a perfect free-kick that was turned in by an ecstatic Conor Coady for his first international goal. England were now in control against a Wales side defending an eight-match unbeaten run and Danny Ings, making his first start, showed superb athleticism to add a third in the 63rd minute with a perfectly-executed overhead kick after Tyrone Mings had headed down a Kalvin Phillips corner.

Saturday, 10 October 2020 -
England forwards Jadon Sancho and Tammy Abraham are available for tomorrow's Nations League game against Belgium. Chilwell will not feature against Belgium at Wembley because of an illness unrelated to Covid-19. "They're back with the group and we move forward," said manager Gareth Southgate. "Tammy and Jadon both trained on Saturday anderyone is available. They've missed a bit of training so that's a bit of a concern but it's done. Ben will be tested on Saturday and we'll have to wait for the results of that on Sunday and then we can make a decision from there."
Harry Kane could miss the game, however, after picking up a muscle injury in training today. Should the injury force Kane to sit out, then it is expected Calvert-Lewin will keep his place. Southgate is also expected to hand Kyle Walker his fiftieth cap, and is likely to include United pair, Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford, and Liverpool pair, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson, as well as Eric Dier and Declan Rice.
