Squad details correct up to and including Portugal's match against Netherlands on 25 June 2006.

Notes

Tuesday, 27 June 2006 - Midfielder Deco will miss Portugal's quarter-final with England after Fifa dashed any hopes of appealing against his dismissal in the game with Netherlands.   Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari asked Portugal's Football Federation to appeal against Deco's first caution.  But Fifa communications director Markus Siegler said: "There was a phone call, they were clearly told 'forget it'."  Deco will serve a one-match ban.

Monday, 26 June 2006 - Portugal remain hopeful Cristiano Ronaldo will be fit to face England.  The Manchester United winger picked up a thigh injury after he was tackled by defender Khalid Boulahrouz in Portugal's 1-0 win over the Dutch.  Portugal team doctor Henrique Jones said: "Ronaldo has had a scan, he's got muscular swelling in his thigh.  He could begin to run on Wednesday and train on Thursday or Friday. We're hopeful he will recover."

Sunday, 25 June 2006 - Portugal booked their place in the last eight of the World Cup and a meeting with England on Saturday after beating Netherlands in a stormy encounter.  Both teams finished the game with nine men after a game which equalled the World Cup record for bookings - 16 - and broke the record for red cards.  Deco and Costinha were dismissed for Portugal, while Khalid Boulahrouz and Gio van Bronkhorst saw red for Netherlands.  Maniche scored the only goal, firing into the top corner after 23 minutes.
