After
switching to all-white for more of their games in their
previous kit, England
launched their new home outfit for the 2026 World Cup finals with white
shorts, bearing in mind that FIFA's tournament rules on colours expressed
a preference for countries to wear full kits of one colour. They did,
however, include dark blue (obsidian) shorts with their
new red away kit.
The purists were satisfied that there were no multi-coloured St George's
Crosses this time, following the 'playful abstractions' of the 2024 kits,
and a largely-unnoticed feature was the introduction of the gold star
commemorating England's 1966 triumph, appearing on the shorts for the
first time. Meanwhile, the star on the shirts was no longer a
non-contrasting white, as it had been since 2020, but also resplendent in
gold for the first time since
2014.
