Notes

England wore this classic white Umbro shirt for the first time on 17 February 1993 against San Marino and the last on 16 November 1994 against Nigeria.  It was the preferred strip during most of England's disastrous World Cup 1994 qualifying campaign, although it survived Graham Taylor's regime and continued in use through the first year of Terry Venables' reign.  Altogether England wore it 14 times.

For the first time, a white margin surrounded the three lions within the emblem, which, as a result, was larger than previously.  This feature was not discontinued until the 1999 home white and away red shirts, on which the emblem's traditional design reappeared.

England wore squad numbers at the 1993 US Cup. The white uniform was only worn against Brazil, where the players’ surnames appeared in red on the back, above the number, which also appeared in white on the right thigh of the shorts, alongside the emblem.

Uniforms Index

This uniform was worn by 36 players. David Platt appeared in 12 of the 13 games, captaining them in 10 of them, including for the first time, in the uniform’s first appearance, against San Marino. Just to complete his domination of the kit, he scored 9 of the 20 goals scored by England in this uniform. No other player scored more than twice in it.

Tony Adams also captained England for the first time, in this uniform, against Romania, his 11th and last appearance in it, one behind Platt.

The other England captains in the uniform were Paul Ince and Stuart Pearce.

9 players made their international debut in this uniform, with Teddy Sheringham going on to win 51 caps, Steve McManaman, 37, and Graeme Le Saux, 36.

7 players won their last cap in the uniform, including Paul Parker making his 19th appearance, Carlton Palmer, his 18th and Tony Dorigo, his 15th.

Neil Ruddock was the uniform’s only one-cap wonder, starting and ending his international career as the uniform also appeared for the last time, against Nigeria.

4 players scored their first England goal in this uniform, with Ian Wright going on to hit 9.

John Barnes scored his 11th and last international goal with a spectacular free-kick against the Netherlands, whilst Carlton Palmer netted his only England goal, in the uniform’s debut, against San Marino.
