1 - Joe Hart

With this rather attractive all-green kit only appearing in two matches, because it was tied inextricably to the red away kit in the 150th anniversary designs, there isn't much to report about it.

It was identical in design to the gold kit which debuted four days earlier, but unlike the gold, it was the green that had an entirely gold emblem. Joe Hart made a small piece of history in the first half against Brazil. He had always played for England with his sleeves rolled up. Against Ireland, the Nike debut game, he wore a short-sleeved shirt for the first time, but with a matching gold base layer underneath (FIFA regulations decreed that base layers had to be the same colour as the shirt).

Then, against Brazil, he began the game without the base layer and it became evident that England's goalkeeper was wearing short sleeves. It wasn't quite the first time in history, because Gordon Banks had been forced to don a red short-sleeved tee-shirt in the 1970 World Cup against Romania, after his yellow Aertex shirt had clashed with their opponents.

It was a short-lived experience for Hart, who put the base layer on for the second half in Rio, but continued with this new preference for short sleeves from then on.
