  According to the 1861 census, the two month-old 'unBaptism' male is the only child on this census to solicitor, Edward Shimells and Frances Mary, living at 4 Suffolk Street in St. Martin in the Fields.
  According to the 1871 census, Ernest James is the third of seven children, and with a governess and four servants, they live at Melton Grange in Ferriby with their parents. His father is still a solicitor.
 

According to the 1881 census, Ernest James is an undergraduate at Trinity College in Cambridge.

  According to the 1891 census, Ernest J. is a boarder at 21 Glebe Street in Stoke-upon-Trent, the home of Emma Lake. He is Clerk in Holy Orders.
Marriage to Amy Mary Caroline Cochrane, on 25 September 1895. [registered in Middlesbrough, September 1895]
"On Wednesday afternoon, the picturesque little church of St. Cuthbert's, Marton, was the scene of a very pretty wedding, the bride being Miss Amy Caroline Mary Cochrane, J.P., of the Longlands, Middlesbrough, and the bridegroom the Rev. Ernest James Wilson, M.A., of Home Lea, Cobham, Surrey, son of Mr. Edmund Shimells Wilson, of Melton Grange, Brough, East Yorkshire. The bride's family are well known in Middlesbrough, of which town her father has long been a very highly respected resident, and the bridegroom was one time curate of All Saints, Middlesbrough, and one of the smartest forwards the Middlesbrough Football Club ever had." - Saturday, 28 September 1895, The Advertiser (Staffs & Worcs.)
  According to the 1901 census, Ernest J., and his wife, Amy C.M. are living at Home Lea, in Oak Fields, Cobham, along with two servants. He is a Church of England clergyman.
  According to the 1911 census, still a clergyman and still married, Ernest James, is on his own with three servants, living in Middleton-on-the-Wolds.
  According to the 1939 register, Ernest J. is a retired clergyman, still married to Amy, and they live at The Trossacks, in the Eston area of Middlesbrough.
Death Tuesday, 25 May 1948 in a Scarborough nursing home, aged 87 years 101 days [registered in Scarborough, June 1948].

"DEATH OF THE VICAR.
"His former parishioners in Middleton will regret to hear the death in a Scarborough nursing home recently of the Rev. Ernest James Wilson, M.A., who until his retirement in 1937 was for 33 years Rector of Middleton. He was 87 years of age. He is survived by his wife."
