His father was John Thomas (he played in goal for Ashington FC in the 1920's when they were a Football League side).
In 1907 he married Elizabeth Ann Charlton.
They in turn had seven children, four of them sons. John, George William (Leeds United FC and Chesterfield
AFC), James (Leeds United AFC and Bradford City FC) and Stanley
(Chesterfield FC, Leicester City FC and Rochdale AFC). In between them,
Elizabeth Ellen and Esther were born. Elizabeth 'Cissie' would later marry
Robert Charlton in Morpeth in 1934. They had four sons, Alan, Robert
(Manchester United FC), John (Leeds United AFC) and Thomas. |

Norwich City FC. Spent the first season after the war with Bradford City

stepping up to player-manager in January 1947 when Barker resigned. |
