  Thomas Lucas
Birth 22 September 1895 in St Helens, Lancashire [registered in Prescot, December 1895]. Birthdate confirmed by the 1939 register.
 

According to the 1901 census, Thomas is the eighth of nine children (six sons) to Thomas and Mary. His father is a coal hewer and they live at 80 Burtonhead Road in St Helens.

 

According to the 1911 census, Thomas has another younger brother and now he is one of six, now at 76 Burtonhead Road. His father is retired. Thomas is a haulage hand. In all, his parents had fourteen children, eleven of which are alive in 1911.

 

According to the 1921 census, Thomas is still a professional footballer (for Liverpool FC) and is one of four sons still living at home with their parents at now 19 Burtonhead Road in St. Helens.

Marriage to Louisa Stevens [registered in Buckingham, September 1921].
  According to the 1939 register, Thomas, a licensed victualler, is married to Louisa, and living at 13 Risborough Road in Stoke Mandeville, Aylesbury.
Death 11 December 1953, aged 58 years 80 days [registered in Aylesbury, December 1953].

Playing Career

Club(s) Played with a variety of amateur clubs, including Sherdley Villa FC, Sutton Commercial FC, Heywood United FC, Peasley Cross FC and Eccles Borough FC. It was with Eccles that Tommy had a trial with Manchester United FC, but it did not work out, and so he joined Liverpool FC in 1916. He remained at Anfield until he joined Clapton Orient FC on 11 July 1933 and retired from playing a year later.

After retiring from playing with Clapton Orient, he was kept on and put in charge of the nursery club, Ashford FC. He became a licensee in The Woolpack (left), Risborough Road in Stoke Mandeville from 1935 until he died.
