Club Career

Club(s) Played schoolboy football in Liverpool before signing with Liverpool FC as an apprentice in September 1975, turning professional in April 1976.  Spent ten years at Anfield, playing in 197 league appearances, scoring thirteen times, before transferring to Queen's Park Rangers FC in August 1986 for 200,000 pounds and making thirty league appearances. A season later, Lee joined Spanish club CA Osasuna, in July 1987, for another 200,000 pounds for another 28 league appearances. He returned to England with Southampton FC, making just two league appearances and then Bolton Wanderers FC  for a further four league appearances, after which he retired.

Management Career

Club(s) After retiring, Sammy Lee rejoined Liverpool FC as part of the well-known boot room. He coached the reserve team, working his way up to coaching the first team. His progress was duly noted by Sven-Göran Eriksson, he appointed Lee as a coach on 18 May 2001 as a replacement for Steve McClaren, he left Liverpool on 8 July 2004 to concentrate on his England role. Under the McClaren era, in August 2006, Lee was offered the post of Under-21 manager, but this was declined so that he could concentrate on his Bolton Wanderers FC assistant manager's job that he had occupied for a year.  Lee stepped up to the management position in April 2007, but was sacked in October after winning only one match.
Sammy returned to coaching with Liverpool FC on 16 May 2008 as Rafael Benitez' assistant.  He took charge of the first team on 21 December 2008 while his manager was poorly. Lee left Anfield in June 2011.
On 14 February 2012, Lee once more, returned to Bolton Wanderers FC, as Head Coach of the Academy.
