He was brought up in
Edinburgh and so played football for the Edinburgh Schools and junior
level. It was Leeds United AFC that signed him as an amateur in October
1954, turning professional in June 1956. He lost
his place after 98 league appearances, scoring 27 goals. Blackburn
Rovers FC signed him in March 1960 for a £25,000 fee
and made 51 league appearances, scoring six goals. In January 1962,
Wolverhampton Wanderers FC obtained his signature for £30,000 and
went on to play 83 league appearances, scoring
24. And Nottingham Forest FC paid the same fee in August 1964,
making 73 league appearances, scoring twelve.
Bristol City signed him in January 1967 for £15,000.
After 67 league appearances and thirteen goals,
Sydney's Auburn FC bought him for £4000 in May 1969, but he
returned to England when Walsall FC paid £1000 for him in September
1969. He made only thirteen league appearances,
scoring once and he did retire in 1970, but a year later, he
appeared for Bath City FC. |

minutes are an approximation, due to the fact that many matches rarely stick to exactly ninety minutes long, allowing time for injuries and errors. |
