schoolboy football in Horwich, earning a trial with Bolton Wanderers FC,
which was not acted on. Joined the Royal Marines, and while in Plymouth
(one source states Southampton FC),
joined Plymouth Argyle FC, firstly as an amateur, then signing
professional forms November 1947, after he was demobilised (188 league
appearances, 42 goals). Joined Birmingham City FC in October 1953, for around
£14,000 (271 appearances, 67 goals). Transferred to Torquay United FC
in May 1961 on a free transfer (33 appearances, 10 goals).
Retired at the end of the 1962-63 season. |
