      		Diary

		  Thursday, 14 March 2024 -
Gareth Southgate names his 25-man squad,
		  the first squad of 2024.
Anthony Gordon and Jarrad Branthwaite have received their
first call-ups. Liverpool's Joe Gomez returns for the first time
since November 2020 and Chelsea's Ben Chilwell returns to the set-up
for the first time since last September after missing out through
injury. There are also returns for Brentford's Ivan Toney, who returns
for the first time since serving his suspension, and John Stones, who
returns after missing out on the previous squad because of injury. Injury concerns over Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold,
Chelsea's Levi Colwill, Manchester City's Jack Grealish, Crystal
Palace's Marc Guéhi and Newcastle United's Kieran Tripper and
Callum Wilson mean they all miss out having featured in the
previous squad. Kalvin Phillips, on loan at West Ham United, misses
out because of loss of form, whereas Manchester City's Rico Lewis
returns to the under-21 set up. Milan's Fikayo Tomori is dropped in
favour of a recall to Gomez. Southgate revealed that Arsenal's centre-back, Ben
White, who has signed a new four year contract today, has asked not to
be considered. In the evening, Aston Villa secure progression in
the Europa Conference League with a 4-0 victory over Ajax, who
included Jordan Henderson in their line-up, with a first call by Ollie
Watkins, who was then substituted with a 33rd minute injury.

		  Saturday, 16 March 2024 - In today's
football, the FA Cup quarter-final matches dominate, with Manchester
City, including Kyle Walker and Phil Foden, see of Newcastle United,
including Anthony Gordon, to reach their sixth consecutive semi-final.
In the Premier League, Ivan Toney's Brentford lose at Burnley and
James Maddison's Tottenham lose at Fulham. In the Bundesliga, Bayern
München, including Harry Kane, beat SV Darmstadt, with Kane
netting his 31st league goal this season.

		  Sunday, 17 March 2024 - Harry Kane
leaves Germany bound for England, but is carrying a left ankle injury,
picked up in yesterday's Bundesliga victory. In today's football,
Chelsea advance to the FA Cup semi-finals following victory over
Leicester City, Cole Palmer on the scoresheet, and also starring Conor
Gallagher and an appearance from the bench from Ben Chilwell. In the
day's second fixture, Extra Time was needed to send Manchester United
through, who had Marcus Rashford starting and scoring and Harry
Maguire as a substitute, and Liverpool, and Joe Gomez. In the Premier
League, West Ham, including Jarrod Bowen, draw with Aston Villa,
featuring Ezri Konsa and Ollie Watkins. In Eredivisie, Jordan
Henderson and Ajax stage a comeback to draw at Sparta Rotterdam.
		   Monday evening, 18
March 2024 - Following a morning of official kit releases, it
is announced that England's oldest living ex-player, Ron Baynham, has
died, aged 94 years. The baton of oldest living is passed to Tommy
		  Banks.
  Tuesday
afternoon, 19 March 2024 - As the players begin arriving at St.
George's Park, Gareth Southgate has called up Kobbie Mainoo,
Manchester United's talented teenage midfielder, from the under-21 set
		  up.

Wednesday, 20 March 2024 - 22 of the 26 members of the squad
are all training at St. George's Park. Frank Lampard, former captain,
was watching from the sidelines alongside youth coach Joe Edwards and
technical director John McDermott. The three players missing were
training indoors, Harry Kane, Jordan Henderson, Bukayo Saka and Cole
		  Palmer.

Thursday, 21 March 2024 - After another day of training at St.
George's Park, Bukayo Saka trains indoors and is then withdrawn from
the squad to return to Arsenal to continue his rehabilitation. Kane
		  and Henderson also continue indoors.

		  Friday, 22 March 2024 - Harry Kane
and Jordan Henderson continue their personal training programmes indoors as the
rest of the 23-man squad are out training. However, by the time of
Southgate's Press Conference in the evening, both players, and Cole
Palmer, are ruled out of tomorrow night's match. Kane also remains
'extremely doubtful' for the match against Belgium on Tuesday.
		   Saturday, 23 March
		  2024 - England 0 Brazil 1 - Brazil's new teenage sensation
Endrick struck late on to condemn England to defeat in a scrappy
friendly at Wembley. The game looked to be petering out into a draw
before Vinicius Jr broke clear, the 17-year-old substitute left with a
simple finish from close range despite England keeper Jordan
Pickford's save with 10 minutes left. It capped an unsatisfactory
night for England. Their defence, Harry Maguire in particular, looked
vulnerable as they lost captain Kyle Walker to a hamstring injury
early on. Gareth Southgate gave a debut to Newcastle United's Anthony
Gordon from the start, while Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa and
Manchester United's teenage midfield prodigy Kobbie Mainoo made their
first appearances as substitutes. Following the match, Gareth
Southgate confirmed that Harry Kane has returned to his club for
		  further rehabilitation.

Sunday, 24 March 2024 - James Trafford and Rico Lewis have moved across from the
under-21 to join the England senior men’s squad at Tottenham Hotspur’s training ground following the withdrawal of Harry Maguire, Kyle Walker and Sam Johnstone through injury.
It is Burnley goalkeeper Trafford’s first senior call up.
Manchester City’s Lewis has one senior appearance having made his debut for Gareth Southgate’s side in North Macedonia in November 2023.
Maguire, Walker and Johnstone have returned to their respective clubs for assessment having sustained injuries in recent days.

  Monday, 25
March 2024 - Declan Rice will captain his country for the first
time tomorrow night as he picks up his fiftieth appearance. Gareth
Southgate confirms, that after all 23 members of the squad have been
training today, that of the injury concerns, Jude Bellingham had
cramp, Cole Palmer is back, and Jordan Henderson 'probably does not
have 90 minutes in him.' Ivan Toney will be involved against Belgium.
