Notes
Denmark had failed to qualify for the 1992 European
Championship final tournament, finishing second behind Yugoslavia in their
qualifying group. But shortly before the tournament began, UEFA ousted
Yugoslavia, and Denmark were summoned as the replacement. The Danes
hurriedly assembled a squad that, improbably, went on to win the championship.
Michel Laudrup refused to join the national
team because of differences with coach Richard Møller Nielsen. A second
notable absentee was Jan Mølby, who was not selected after he also had
differences with Nielsen.

* Following the extra-time loss to
Italy in the preliminary match and with the ensuing loss to Sweden in the
consolation game, Denmark finished fourth and last in the Scania 100 Cup
tournament, which served as a warmup for the host nation a year ahead of the
European Championship 1992 final tournament. The U.S.S.R. beat Sweden
3-2 after extra time in the other preliminary match, and Italy won the
championship against the U.S.S.R. on penalty kicks 3-2 after a 1-1 extra-time
draw.
** The Faroe Islands lacked a pitch
meeting UEFA standards and played all their home matches in the 1992 European
Championship preliminary competition in
Landskrona, Sweden.
