Notes

This tournament was intended to serve as a trial run for the host nation and participating teams a year ahead of World Cup 1994. By the time the tournament began, England's hopes of World Cup qualification hung by a thread, and their tournament performances gave ample warning the thread would break.  It did, and England had no return trip to the U.S.A. in 1994.

* Nigel Clough transferred from Nottingham Forest FC to Liverpool FC on 7 June 1993, and England's three tournament matches were all played after that date.  The F.A. Yearbook for 1993-94 has his club affiliation as Liverpool FC in its squad list for the tournament, and we believe it is correct.  Although the sources universally say Clough's 14 England appearances all came while he was with Nottingham Forest, we believe it is correct to list his club affiliation for his three appearances in this tournament as Liverpool FC.  A player's club affiliation is determined by the date of transfer to or signing with the club and not the date of his debut with the club.
