Notes
Scotland and
England shared the championship because they gained the same number of
points. Goal difference was not used to decide British Championship
placings until the 1979-80 edition. It was the first time England won a
share of the championship.

Notes
The date of England's match with
Scotland is disputed. The Football Association and some histories have it played on March 31, 1886, the Monday after England's Saturday
match against Wales, and we have followed them. Other histories have it played on March 27, 1886, the Thursday before the
Saturday Wales match.
