2000

Notes

Peter Taylor, highly successful England under-21 coach deposed to make way for Howard Wilkinson after Glenn Hoddle's tenure as England manager ended, returned to take charge of the senior team for the friendly match against Italy in November, 2000.  He fielded an experimental side of younger players and, controversially, handed the captain's armband for the first time to David Beckham.

After Sven-Göran Eriksson took charge, Taylor lent his assistance, staying on as a part-time member of the England coaching staff until season's end.
