England switched to Umbro for the 1952-53 season, the beginning of a long association with the Cheshire-based company, who would produce the national team's kit for the best part of over half a century.

There were no discernible changes to the kit for the new season, apart from the number style on the back of the shirt, though when they played in Switzerland in the 1954 World Cup, the shirts were not made by Umbro.
