Birth 16 April 1896 in California Street, Seaham, County Durham [registered in Easington, June 1896].
California Street was stated in his obituary in the Sunderland Echo
 

According to the 1901 census, Thomas is the fifth of six children to John and Dorothy Jane (née Smith). They live at 59 Doctor Street in Seaham. His father is a coal mine hewer.

 

According to the 1911 census, Thomas, who has two more younger brothers, is a coal mine flat-lad, at the same mine his father is a hewer. He is one of ten, and three of his siblings had died before this return. They live at 11 California Street in New Seaham.

 

According to the 1921 census, Thomas is now a professional footballer (for Huddersfield Town FC) and is the oldest of now three sons still living at home with their parents still at 11 California Street.

Marriage to Elsie Jane Armstrong Bulmer [registered in Easington, June 1924]. They had three children, all sons, Thomas Derek (b.3 November 1925), Gordon Bulmer (b.25 July 1931) and Robert Neil (b.4 February 1934).
 

According to the 1939 register, Thomas, a factory policeman, is married to Elsie J.A.., they live at 9 Lynton Avenue, Huddersfield, with their three children.

Death 2 February 1948, died at his home at 102 Vernon Way in Gawber, Barnsley, aged 51 years 292 days [registered in Staincross, March 1948], of a heart-attack.
On 3 May 1948, a benefit match was played between Huddersfield Town AFC and Barnsley FC for the dependents of Tom Wilson, Huddersfield won 2-0.

Playing Career

Club(s) Began playing football for Sunderland Schools and played for the Seaham Colliery works team. He was with Sunderland AFC during 1913-14 but was allowed to leave because he was deemed overweight, having made just eight league outings. Wilson rejoined Seaham Colliery FC straight after the war. Huddersfield Town AFC signed Wilson in June 1919. He remained at Leeds Road, becoming club captain, making 448 league appearances and scoring four goals, until his transfer to Blackpool FC on 11 November 1931, and he retired at the end of that season, having made eighteen appearances.

Beyond England

Upon his retirement from the football pitch, Wilson took up the vacant role of assistant trainer back at Huddersfield Town FC, and he remained in this capacity until the war. He continued to help on the training ground while working for British Dyes. After which, in 1945, he was appointed as the trainer at Barnsley FC, which is where he was serving when he died. - An English Football Internationalists' Who's Who. Douglas Lamming (1990).
