Played junior football with YMCA in Lytham St Annes, before joining the
Everton FC academy. McCann signed professionally on 1 July 1995 and
went on to play in eleven Premiership matches. He signed for Sunderland
AFC on 27 November 1998 for £500,000, and played 116 Premiership
matches, scoring eight goals. Joined Aston Villa FC for £2.25 million
on 31 July 2003 where he would play another 110 Premiership matches,
scoring three times. Despite hs injury setbacks, a move to Bolton
Wanderers FC followed in June 2007, he played in 75 league matches,
scoring once, before injury finally overcame him and he retired in
early 2011. |

Milligan-McCann Academy, in Lytham St. Annes, in February 2008. After
retiring from playing, he assisted the Youth teams at Bolton Wanderers,
until he was appointed assistant manager of Hyde United FC on 7 May 2012. |
