Club Career

Club(s) Began in Manchester United FC's Football of Excellence, but failed to make the grade. Joined his hometown club, Sunderland AFC, from being a trainee, signing professionally on 1 July 1992 and played for them 363 times, scoring sixteen goals. Gray was loaned to The Celtic FC on 31 August 2003, where he made a further seven SPL appearances.  Unwanted by the Black Cats, he joined Blackburn Rovers FC on a free transfer on 28 January 2004 (64 Premier League appearances), loaned to Leeds United AFC on 3 February 2005, and again in 2007 (16 Championship appearances).  Joined Wolverhampton Wanderers on 25 July 2007 (41 league appearances, four goals).  On 9 January 2009, Gray joined Sheffield Wednesday FC on loan, signing a permanent free deal on transfer deadline day, 2 February 2009, until the end of the season (43 league appearances, two goals). Following Wednesday's relegation into the third tier of English football, the club did not offer Gray any contract, thus Michael Gray announced his retirement from football on 11 May 2010. Having played 534 league games, scoring 22 times.
